Affiliated Fellowship with the American Academy in Rome
Applications are invited for Affiliated Fellowships to be held at the American Academy in Rome. We hope to send at least one member of the Rutgers Department of Classics community to conduct research that is connected to the city of Rome—its ancient material culture, ancient history and culture, and their reception. Priority will be given to Rutgers Classics Ph.D. students (current and those who have received the degree within the past five years), though current faculty in the Department of Classics are also eligible to apply.
The duration of the Fellowship is normally four weeks (per policy of the AAR) and can be held at any time between mid-September and April. Affiliated Fellows will have the cost of their flights, room and board covered by the Department.
Affiliated Fellows will work on their research while in residence, either writing and/or visiting sites, libraries, museums, etc. They will also participate fully in the life of the Academy, where they will enjoy the same resources as regular Fellows.
Applicants should submit a C.V. and a one-page statement outlining their current research and explaining in detail how an Affiliated Fellowship will contribute to it. Please also send names of two referees. (Letters are not required at the initial stage.)
These application materials should be emailed to
