Daniel Hunter joined the Rutgers Classics Department in 2022 having previously completed an MA in Languages and Cultures at Texas Tech University (2019-2022) and an MA in Ancient History at the University of Auckland (2017-2019). Daniel's primary area of research lies in the history and historiography of the Hellenistic period, with particular emphases on the Seleucid Empire, Hellenistic Bithynia and Pontus, and the historian Appian of Alexandria. Since coming to Rutgers, Daniel has also developed a burgeoning interest in ἐνάργεια and sublate aesthetics in Latin poetry, having presented twice at CAAS's Annual Fall Meeting (2023 and 2024) on Lucretius DRN 6.1138-1286 and the extispicy scene in Seneca's Oedipus respectively.
Daniel participated in the ASCSA Summer Session for 2024 and has also published on Hellenistic era Bithynian and Pontic coins down to the reign of Mithridates VI. Daniel would be very interested in talking to any prospective students with interests in ancient history and/or historiography.
